The Castaways

What I think of this season.

Survivor: South Pacific has been the second installment of Survivor that features Redemption Island.  Like the previous season, South Pacific also has two past survivors return to play with a group of new players fresh into the survivor world.
This seasons past castaways were Ozzy Lusth and Benjamin “Coach” Wade.  I give the producers a thumb up on their choice of returnees but a thumb down on the idea of bringing past players back to compete for their third time.
As someone who follows the show very closely I wish to see a large group of new faces.  Not the same old ones every season.  If producers want to continue having large groups of interesting people trying out and millions of viewers than I would advise them to quit the returning player pattern.
On this season Ozzy and Coach became the leaders of their tribes on Day 1, which foreshadowed the fact that the new survivors were going to be spineless and naïve.
Luckily, Christine Shields Markoski and Stacey Powell stood up for themselves and fought against Coach’s dictatorship over the Upolu tribe.  Unfortunately for them, this meant they were certainly the first two members of their tribe to be voted out.  I felt bad for them that they had to go home so quickly and I wish these competitors made it further in the game.
I personally really liked the Savaii tribe.  The only player that got on my nerves was John Cochran; only because of what he did after the merge.
Everyone on the Savaii tribe was very likable and interesting to watch.  Dawn Meehan was one tribe member that stood out to me because she started out as an outsider because of her age but when the tribe discovered her great strength she became one of the members of the main alliance.
After the first seven episodes, Upolu and Savaii were even on tribe members and they merged into one group.  Savaii made a plan to trick Upolu by having Cochran act as an outsider after they took sympathy on him and saved him from being eliminated three times.
When Cochran approached the Upolu members he decided to join forces with them and betray the group of people who repeatedly saved him from going to Redemption Island.
On day 21, Cochran made a foolish game-changing move by betraying his tribe and voting off Keith Tollefson.  This resulted in the demise of the Savaii tribe, as Ozzy Lusth, Jim Rice, Dawn Meehan, and Whitney Duncan were the next ones to be sent to Redemption Island.
Once Cochran was left with the six Upolu members he realized he made a huge mistake.  The Upolu six quickly turned around to stab Cochran in the back and send him to Redemption Island where Ozzy got revenge on the weasel, making him the fifth member of the jury.
When the Upolu six were left, none of them knew what to do because it was their first day actually playing the game.  Brandon Hantz once again decided to make a girl cry when he made it clear he wanted Edna Ma to go home next.
Brandon has continuously proven him self to be one of the biggest jerks in Survivor history.  So far Brandon has made Mikayla Wingle cry when he told her he did not like her and then he made Whitney Duncan cry when he bullied the helpless Savaii tribe.  I’m honestly surprised he could have a wife after seeing how poorly he has treated the women on this show.
Last week, Brandon’s wish came true and Edna was the next one to get voted off.  Now, she is on Redemption Island facing off against challenge powerhouse, Ozzy.
Tonight we will see who will continue to survive on Redemption Island and who will get voted off next.  Tune in to CBS to see what will happen next.
